And some points are correct – we fully agree with the PowerPoint issue in particular. It is also obvious that the remuneration rates of large consultancies are only partially compatible with start-ups.
But one thing at a time. What is the USP of our boutique consultancy – boost4S? What unites us 4 founders is that we all have experience as entrepreneurs, as VC and/or business angels and in start-ups. In addition, we learnt the hard way that start-ups in particular cannot afford to make the wrong strategic decisions. Triggering events for necessary strategic decisions are particularly common among start-ups. So far, our clients have given us the following reasons for working with us:
1. upcoming funding round
2. business plan deviations
3. strategic alignment – e.g. different business models
4. international expansion
5. disagreement between founders and / or investors
6. planned exit
When a trigger like this comes up, we go in. We take a ‘quick and dirty’ look at the start-up from various perspectives: customer, market, competitors, technology, founders, IP, investors, financials, value, etc.
On the basis of this analysis, we work with the founders and investors / business angels to determine which specific steps make sense and how this strategy can be implemented as easily as possible – we stay on board for the implementation, e.g. for sales push projects, funding rounds but also for restructurings or exits!
This is exactly what we are passionate about and we are glad that we have turned our hobby into our profession! It is very important to us to keep the captable clean, which is why we do not take equity – but we are very open to performance-related remuneration during implementation.
